Autumn's Math Workshop FYI
September 27, 2007
Dear Caregivers,
We are now into our second week of math workshop. If you are
receiving this notice, I have the pleasure of working with your
child in math on Monday through Thursday. Below is some general
information about what we will be covering and how you can help at
home. Every two weeks I will be sending home my FYI home with your
child so you can see what we have been working on.
We begin each math class with our "math jobs" booklet. Each student
has their own booklet, in which we fill in the date in the calendar,
fill in the weather chart, and write the number of school days on
the hundreds chart. We will be adding pages to the booklet
throughout the year as we introduce new topics, such as tally marks
and temperature.
If you have any questions or concerns, please write me a note or
e-mail me at autumns@communityschool.net. Thank you for your time
and support from home.
Sincerely,
Autumn Scanlon

What you can do at home to help:
Have students read numbers in their environment (i.e. speed
limits, bus number, route numbers)
Notice when you and your child use math throughout the day and
point it out (i.e. baking, schedules, going to the store, etc.)
Practice addition facts 10 minutes per day: begin with simple
addition facts (adding 0, 1, or 2 to a number), move onto all
addition facts to sums of 0-10, move on to subtraction using numbers
to 10 and below, and eventually move to addition facts to sums of
11-20.
