September 2007

It's hard to believe that the school year has already begun. We are excited about teaching your children during the next 9 months!
This month, we will start the year off with a unit on folk tales and traditional stories. We will be reading The Little Red Hen, The Three Bears, and The Three Little Pigs. We will explore the different variations of the stories. We will discuss the differences and similarities between the different versions. If anyone has a version of any of these tales, please feel free to send it in with your child. We will return the book to you at the end of our unit.
Just a few reminders:

Please make sure you send in a healthy lunch and fruit break snack. The snack doesn't necessarily need to be fruit, but it must be a healthy snack. Yogurt, cheese, peanut butter crackers, cereal bars (like nutra-grain bars)...are all healthy alternatives to fruit. Also, please be sure to send a spoon, napkin, straw...if your child requires them with his or her lunch. Containers that your child can open are also important in their move to becoming more self-sufficient.

School begins at 8:45 in the morning. It is important that your child is here by then. The doors open at 8:15. Promptness is especially important because some of the Special Classes begin first thing on some of the days.

Please be sure to send in a fitted sheet for rest time. We also need a complete change of clothes for each child and the supplies listed in the summer letter. If you already brought them in, thanks!

This year our classes will be blogging about our daily news. Find out details about our day at communityschool.net. Click on the teacher pages link and click on your child's teacher. It will lead you to the blog. It is a modified blog in that you will not be able to post comments. However, each student will have a folder for parent/teacher communication. Please be sure to send the folder in every day.

Also this year, we will be working on a Peace Chain. Each day we will try to catch someone being especially kind, or considerate, or helpful. When we notice these kind acts, we will take note of them by writing them on a link to the chain. Once our chain wraps all the way around the room, we will celebrate by having a Peace Party. Already, we have seen kindness and compassion that should make you proud of your children. We are proud of them, too!

It's going to be a great year!
