December 2007

I can't believe that December is nearly here!  During this month, our classes will be learning about different winter celebrations that are observed in December.  We will be exploring the differences and similarities between such celebrations as Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa.  We will also be focusing on the letters D,S, and P.  We are trying a different format for this F.Y.I. in hopes that the information will be more accessible to busy families with not a lot of time to read.  Please let us know if this works for you.

The Giving Tree

This month we are asking the students to bring in either a new child-sized hat or child-sized pair of mittens to place on the Giving Trees we have set up in our rooms.   All items collected will be donated to children of the Rescue Mission in downtown Roanoke.  Please be sure to send in the mittens or hats by December 21st

Classroom Gifts

We know that this is the time of year when many parents are considering holiday gifts for their child's teacher.  In lieu of giving personal gifts to each of us, we respectfully request gift cards or donations that can be used  for our classroom.  Gift cards to stores like Toys R Us, Target, and Kroger would be great.

Fantasy Land

On Friday, December 7th, we will be taking a field trip to see Santa!  He will be singing and telling stories in Fantasy Land at the History Museum in Center in the Square.  We will need at least 3 parent drivers from each class to help with transportation.  Our scheduled time is 12:00.  We will leave C.S. at 11:15 and return by 1:15.  The student's admission will come out of the Activity Fee you paid at the beginning of the year.  Admission for all parents is $2.00.  Please let us know if you can help.

Pajama Party

Instead of the skating party on the last day of school before winter break, we have decided to have a party of our own!  On Friday the 21st,  we will be having a pajama party.  Please allow your child to wear his or her pajamas to school on this day.  If your child wants to wear slippers, please be sure to send in a pair of shoes as we will still be going out for recess that day.
