Math Workshop
We
continued our temperature, time, and calendar routines, with Kim
leading these activities as our “beautiful assistant.” We talked
about the presidents on our coins and bills, worked on money
notations, and played store with change. We continue our weekly
timed practice for addition. Please practice their math facts to 20
with your child each day.
Book
Clubs
This is what our groups worked on
this week:
N-E-Ds: Dick and Jane and
sl/sc/sw/sn.
Stars: Tongue twisters and ch.
Stripes: “Cookies” and a vowel game.
Washingtons: Scholastic
News and the vowel game.
Lincolns and Bald Eagles: Pecos Bill
and long -a patterns, plus Letter
Getter and the Possum Lodge Word Game.
Science/Theme
We examined products of the Silk Road at the Co-op on
Tuesday. Thank you to drivers Lynn (driving Pattie's
van), Bob, Michael, Sherry, Guiliana, and Nancy. This week we also
finished our carpet designs and made the Arabic words for peace,
hope, freedom, and thank you. The students did a desert-themed word
search with Autumn.
Stories
Cathy Namenek gave the class Miss Smith's
Incredible Storybook, which was
incredible fun! We also heard Will you Be My Valentine?
at Michael's suggestion. It was Michael's secret surprise for me
that the main character in the book was named Gretchen!
Special and Noteworthy
Thank you to Louie and
Lelia Cross for visiting us in their Kurdish clothes and sharing
artifacts and greetings from Iraq. The students really enjoyed this.
And, of course, thanks to all the families who helped
their children prepare Valentines. It was a cheerful, colorful
sight!
