Preschool and Kindergarten Information Session Thursday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m.

Parents considering preschool or kindergarten for their child in fall 2008 are invited to Community School’s Preschool and Kindergarten Information Session on Thursday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m. (Snow Date: Thursday, March 13, at 7:00 pm). This session is open to current families and the general public. Free childcare is available during the program. Please call the office in advance to reserve the childcare services.

During the program, parents will visit our early learner and lower elementary classrooms. The teachers will lead brief discussions about guidelines for early childhood education and how Community School’s developmentally-appropriate curriculum addresses students’ social, physical, emotional, and academic growth. Other topics of discussion will include the daily class schedules, examples of hands-on learning activities, and features that make Community School’s program unique in the Roanoke Valley. Following the classroom visits, parents are invited to enjoy refreshments and discuss their questions with Community School’s Director and Admissions Coordinator.

We encourage all our current families to invite a prospective family to attend this information session. Cards and flyers with information about this event are available in the office. Don’t forget to complete a Parent Referral Card for your guest family – if they enroll, you can receive a $250 credit on your fall tuition. The referral cards are available in the office and online at www.communityschool.net (click on “Links,” connect to our old website, then click on “Downloadable Documents”). If you have any questions about the information session or the admissions process, please call Victoria in the office.

CHS Fat Tuesday a Big Success

Congratulations to the families, staff and students of Community High School on the success of their Fat Tuesday Celebration. The event raised $10,120 for CHS. Thank you to all the C.S. families who supported this CHS event.

Middle School Lunches

Because too many students are not bringing balanced lunches to school and are instead relying on the pasta that was meant for emergencies, the middle school will no longer provide the noodle soup or macaroni and cheese for students. Students need to bring their own lunches to school each day.  The only exceptions are for paid Lunch-A-Month and pizza days.

Parking Lot Safety Reminders

In order to maintain a safe and efficient dismissal, please remember the following:

Please refrain from using cell phones while you are driving in the C.S. parking lot.

If you intend to walk up to retrieve your child, if you need to talk with a staff member, or if you need to install booster seats, please    park your car in the parking lot and walk up to the main campus.   Thank you.

New Website - Please send us your comments and let us know how our new website is working for you

By now I hope everyone has had the opportunity to visit our newly redesigned website. One new feature I hope you’ll take a moment to explore is the link under “Giving” for Click and Pledge. Click and Pledge is a local organization that helps manage the online payment needs of nonprofit organizations.

As you look at the new site, please take a moment and send me any feedback you have, either by stopping in, dropping a note in my mailbox in the office, or emailing me at carissa@communityschool.net. Even though we’ve gone live with the site, we will continue making additions and corrections as needed. Please share your thoughts with us.
