Classroom Spotlight - Students Learn About Iraqi People, Culture, & Traditions

Michi’s son Grant Hines recently presented Power Points about Iraq to the upper elementary and middle school classes. Louie and Lelia Cross visited the upper and middle elementary classes dressed in traditional Iraqi clothing and provided military MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) for Betsy’s and Kim’s students to sample. They also shared artifacts from Iraq that had been given to Louie by some of the Iraqi soldiers with whom he worked. Grant and Louie both served a recent tour of duty in Iraq.

Preschool & Kindergarten Information Session -  March 6, 7:00 p.m. - Snow date - March 13, 7:00 p.m. - Call office for child care.  Open to current parents and the general public.

Parents considering preschool or kindergarten for their child in fall 2008 are invited to our information session next Thursday. The program will include classroom visits and teacher-led discussions about guidelines for early childhood education; how our developmentally-appropriate curriculum addresses students’ social, physical, emotional, and academic growth; daily class schedules; examples of hands-on learning activities; and features that make our program unique in the Roanoke Valley. Following the classroom visits, parents are invited to enjoy refreshments and discuss their questions with Holly and Victoria.

We encourage all our current families to invite a prospective family to attend this information session. Cards and flyers about the event are available in the office. Don’t forget to complete a Parent Referral Card for your guest family – if they enroll, you can receive a $250 credit on your fall tuition. Referral cards are available in the office and on our website under Downloadable Documents. If you have any questions about the information session or the admissions process, please call Victoria.

Oops! Please Note the Following Corrections.

1)     The dates were incorrectly listed in QN last week for the upcoming early learner and elementary drama performances. The correct dates are March 7, 10, 11 and 12. Parents are invited to attend at their convenience. The corrected performance schedule is attached.

2)     The cost of our summer camp programs was inadvertently omitted from the flyer last week. All camps are $135 per week, per child. New flyers are attached.

Alumni Update

C.S. alumnus Morgan H. recently wrote that he is working on his last semester as an economics major at Amherst and will be starting a job at Bain & Company in Boston this August. Bain is a strategic consulting firm working with both national and international firms from different business sectors as well as with private equity groups. Morgan anticipates working there for 2-3 years after which he hopes to transfer to an international branch of the company. Beyond that, he intends to go to business school. Strawberry Festival Community Chest

The Strawberry Festival Community Chest needs your talent and your donations. What is Community Chest? It was named by the students and is one of the many fundraising facets of Strawberry Festival. It’s a booth that showcases strawberry-themed goods made or donated by parents, grandparents, students and friends.

Each year we receive wonderful sewn and crafted items. Each year is slightly different, but we do have some specific items that are perennially popular, such as our t-shirts and homemade strawberry jam (a huge seller). We rely upon your help to replenish the stock. If you would like to have the recipe for the jam, ideas for sewn items, or if you have any other ideas for the booth, please call Mary at 389-4566.

The Community Chest makes a nice profit for the school and has a faithful following in the festival-goers! We will have a box in the office waiting to receive your goodies. Thanks for your help as we prepare for our most successful Strawberry Festival yet!
