C.S. Book Fair at Barnes & Noble (Valley View Mall)

Barnes & Noble Book Fair
November 16-17-18, 2007

The Community School Book Fair is taking place at the new Barnes & Noble at Valley View Mall. Start making your list: holiday gifts, birthday gifts, anniversary gifts, indulging yourself, etc. C.S. will get up to 20% of the value of everything you buy during the dates of our book fair! You can even use B & N gift cards and/or your B & N Reader’s Advantage card when making purchases. Remember, Barnes and Noble carries a whole lot more that just books: CD’s. DVD’s. stationery, magazines, greeting cards, games, toys, puzzles, mugs, diaries, bulk coffee and tea, and on and on.

We’ll start sending out purchase vouchers next month. Please share them with your friends and co-workers and encourage them to come on our book fair weekend. There is no additional cost or commitment to the person using the voucher -- just present it to the cashier at checkout. Vouchers will also be available at our C.S. info tables at the store entrances. All purchases with C.S. vouchers will be credited toward our total, so please encourage all of your family members, friends, and acquaintances to shop on our dates and to use our vouchers. Please save these dates to do a lot of your buying at Barnes and Noble and help C.S. in the process! Most items for sale at Barnes & Noble are eligible for this percentage donation including books, music, games, cards, gift-wrap, gifts, and magazines. This is a great time to jumpstart your holiday shopping!

Halloween Carnival
For Elementary Classes
Date: Wed., Oct. 31

Location: Tayloe Gym, Hollins University

The elementary students will be attending a Halloween Carnival on the Hollins University campus on October 31. Please send your child’s costume to school that day. Students should not wear their costumes to school as it makes classroom concentration extremely difficult! We will need parent volunteers to help children put their costumes on, to walk the children to Hollins, and to attend the party with the classes. Please see your child’s teacher if you can help.

Bolivian Exchange Students Arrive on October 26

For the tenth year, we are delighted to welcome exchange students from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, to our school. This year we have seven boys and two girls visiting. They will be staying with Community School families and attending classes at C.S. from October 26 through December 14. Students from our middle school program will go to Santa Cruz during the second semester.

C.S. Students Learn About All Saints Day on November 1

On November 1, our students will be comparing cultural traditions by learning about and celebrating All Saints Day. They will participate in activities in the Spanish and art rooms, assisted by students from the Community High School Spanish classes. Parents are welcome to join the fun. Schedule: 10:30 - 11:45 a.m. for Early Learner & Elementary Classes and 12:45 - 1:30 p.m. for Middle School Classes.

CS Website Redesign

Coming Soon

We will be using tracking code to help design our improvements to serve you better.

Our website will shortly be undergoing a redesign. In order to make it accessible and to determine which content to keep, I have added tracking code to many of the pages. This type of code is also known as a cookie. It will not collect any personal information, but it will give us statistics to help make the new website better. For example, I will be able to tell that 15 people visited the Parent’s Resource Page on Monday. I will know that eight of them used Internet Explorer 6(IE6), two of them used IE5, three of them used Safari and two used Firefox as their web browsers. I will be able to tell how long they stayed on that page and if they visited any other pages on the CS site (and only the CS site). I will not know who they were, just that they visited. This will enable us to determine which pages to keep on the new website and also ensure that they work properly with the browsers that our visitors to the site use. If you have your browser set to reject cookies, or if it’s set to ask you if you will allow cookies, please consider allowing them on the CS site. It’s how we can make the site serve you better. Thanks! Lelia
