Peaceable School

Community School was the first Peaceable School in Southwest Virginia. Since June 2001, the faculty and staff at Community School have integrated a comprehensive conflict resolution program into the school's curriculum.

By definition, a peaceable school is an educational community that encourages students to take responsibility for their actions, and to use conflict resolution skills to solve their conflicts. Through discussions and hands on experiences, we teach our students the “Big One”: Treat yourself, others and the environment with care. We explore our differences, and learn to respect those differences, whether they involve appearance, background, ability, or opinion.
