Remembering Charles Holland

A Legacy of Leadership and Dedication

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Charles Holland, one of Community School’s three original founders and our longest-serving board member. Charlie’s dedication to CS spanned decades—as a founder, parent, leader, and committed advocate for our school and its mission.

Former Executive Director Linda Roth reflected on his impact, saying, “I am so grateful for his steadfast loyalty to the school and his commitment to our philosophy and its unique educational opportunities. As a Founding Family member, Charlie stayed involved through his long-term service on the Board, generous support of fundraising events, referrals of new students, and enthusiastic sharing of our history and achievements with anyone who would listen.

Charlie’s ties to our campus ran deep. All four of his children attended Community School, and for a time, he even lived in what is now our administrative offices, the Carriage House, when it served as student housing for Hollins College (now Hollins University). He was an unwavering supporter of CS, ensuring that its founding ideals remained at the heart of our community.

His passing is a great loss, but his legacy endures in the school he helped build and the lives he touched. To learn more about Charlie’s life and impact, we encourage you to read his obituary.
