For 11 Community School middle school students, last week marked the start of a month-long visit to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where they will attend school and live with Bolivian host families. The trip is part of a long-standing exchange program led by Spanish teacher, Elena Isler, which creates opportunities for students to broaden their knowledge of Spanish, immerse themselves in the culture of another country and gain confidence and independence. Last October, we welcomed 10 students from Colegio Domingo Savio in Santa Cruz, Bolivia to Community School. Our students will reunite with these students in Bolivia and, in many cases, stay in their homes. The program stands out as one of the more influential components the CS experience.
