Congratulations to Walter P. (Seminar class of 2009) who is currently a high school junior in North Carolina. He recently won first place in Future Farmers of America Extemporaneous Public Speaking in federation competition. He will go on to compete in the area competition later this spring. His topic was: “On small farms 89% of the farmer’s income comes from outside the farm. How can income from the farm be increased? ” Drawing on his Community School experiences, he included agricultural facts and figures from Bolivia in his speech. Walter also recently won two first places in the Science Olympiad regional competitions held at Fayetteville Tech. He won first in forestry and Fermi question and will go on to the state competition in Raleigh in April. According to his mother, he is so engrossed in his preparations that he has taken over the dining room and is refusing to come out except for food and school.
